the man who would be president...

there's this guy, yeah? (i like when girl's use "yeah" in every line)... he came from absolutely nowhere into the public consciousness when in 2007, abuja was awash with his posters in a bid for the presidency. yes, you heard me, presidente. a position that even the most sure footed party stalwarts were skeptical about putting in money and time. all the relevant players like danjuma and lar and all didn't even bother. but our dear mr. okorocha did. from feelers i got after the last elections a few months ago, mr. rochas okorocha has been politically active before he became famous and to cut an otherwise long story short, he is now the governor of imo state. as one nigerian who does not watch africa magic except at gun point, i'm usually not one to believe in voodoo as being the source of every single stupendously rich man, but i am yet to find anyone who has given me a break down of mr. okorocha's source of income. at least, i can point to dangote cement, sugar etc, jimoh ibrahim's hotels and stuff, femi otedola's oil company and bla bla and the list goes on. i think that if you are as wealthy as to become unmissable, then your money making venture should be forefront...but what am i saying sef? have i seen hajia bola shagaya's source of income? or the countless other people? forgive my digression.

i paid no attention to this man even after he won the elections on the promise of "change" (yawn) for imo state but i have come accross some delightful news today. apparently, mr.okorocha has decided that as he could not win the presidency, he will convert his small state into a country. he will utilize the resources of the state towards the noble goal of surrounding himself with advisers that would make a pharaoh blush. or how else would you explain the fifteen (15) senior special assistants, thirty-two (32) special assistants, eleven (11) special advisers (different from special assistants mind you), fourteen (14) commissioners and 42 (forty two) committee members for various things from sports to budget committees. the man is so in need for advice that he even has a special assistant for lagos affairs! seriously? LAGOS is a state like IMO, and you need an assistant to assist you in monitoring, er...the investments of IMO state in Laagos State? wow, i can't wait to see the scope of work for that Special Assistant. and she's pretty too...

i hope she's effective at specially assisting the governor on each of his trips to Lagos (abi what else is her job?)...

full list here http://www.naijapals.com/modules/naijapals/politics/full-list-of-rochas-okorochas-70-special-advisers/

For context, Imo State is not nearly the highest earning state in Nigeria either in terms of monthly federal allocation or internally generated revenue and it is surprising that a governor would seek to replicate a federal structure in as small a state as Imo State without any significant public outrage. I have looked high and low for the monthly allocation that imo state gets, to no avail, but even lagos state with its impressive internally generated revenue cannot justify making 70 government appointees!

As I always say, only in Nigeria. see y'all around peeps

Just like everyone else, d appointments came as a surprise and was purely unnecessary. Firstly, these appointees will be paid fat wages for doing nothing. Speaking in your line of thought, Nkiru (SA on Lagos Affairs) would surely be the most active(both on and off the scene*wink*) of all the appointees given the numerous visits the Governor will make to Lagos.

Look at this picture. That's one of the children being rescued from a collapsed school building in Lagos, Nigeria. You don't have a be a parent and I won't pander to your better instincts. Tell me this is acceptable or should be allowed to occur again. The President sent condolence messages and the Governor visited the site then said the state emergency services will do all they can cliched response. the end. and people moved on. The heartbreaking pictures of the children pulled out half dazed with cement dust all over their little noses (Exhibit A) did not let me sleep last night. I have gone to drop a comment on the governor's pages on all social media platforms that we need #MoreThanPlatitudes 🚫❌ We need to hear what policy changes are triggered by the death of these babies. The Commissioner of Education must address Lagosians and set up a project team with the Commissioner for Works or Town Planning etc to undertake an immediate structural integrity test

With the global movement shifting women forward, making them outspoken and addressing negative patriarchal activities that have gone on for decades...it has been a great year for moving women forward. The concept of gender equality is now universally accepted and even religious leaders have come to openly embrace the concept as not being against godly teachings. The place of the woman is now everywhere, no more is her definition of success measured by the ability to be submissive to a man or to cook and iron and clean. And although feminism is still under attack in half the world where conservative traditional way of life still holds sway, there has been immense improvement in female child education, reduction of female genital mutilation, plus girl child marriage and trafficking is being fought head on. It is a great time to be a woman. This year, companies and corporate organizations around the world are making a conscious effort to balance the pay gap in the workplace. When H
