of updates and full circles

as i've explained somewhere before now, the older you grow, the more unwilling you are to share the events of your life with the world. not only because you are wiser and less likely to hurt the feelings of others, but that everyone who knows you personally, seem to know someone else who you know personally...and can identify people you write about even where you hide the identity. if that just made sense to you, then you're either a blogger or should be one.

so, for the first time in a long time, i have no apologies for not writing my blog for a while. i really cannot be sorry because the same reasoning that has created this delay is ongoing. my life is going great, i'm at peace all around and there is really no source of emotional upswing from which to write. i've grown bored with politics, i'm sick of watching all the things i thought impossible actually happen (think syria and libya) and frankly, everything just seems to have come full circle.

okay, they're repairing third mainland bridge, yes they've done that before. yes, obama is running another bitter campaign, yes i've seen that too before. yes, the bribery scandal between otedola and lawan has finally left the headlines, yes, we have seen it all before. at this point i'm guessing its age, cos at a certain point in your life, nothing can possibly shock you. or so i think. i guess having said that, there is nothing to write about except myself. and thats suddenly off limits. so exactly what is going on?

other than *my amazing new nephew (who, like me, does nothing other than eat sleep and demand attention), **the appointment of the first female chief justice of nigeria, ***the grounding of three major airlines (air nigeria, chanchangi and dana), ****the elevation of the first lady to the position of permanent secretary in bayelsa state - for ALL her hard work and punctuality in the civil service over the years (riiiiiiight), and *the fact that i now eat real food - like eba and soup etc - dont ask how/why...nothing at all has happened. the bombings in the north haven't ended, boko haram has reportedly demanded that we all become muslims or die like the infidels we are, the electricity situation remains exactly the same and the president is still as active as a tuber of yam lying on the floor. [::yawn::]

trust me, when anything significant happens, i will let you know. see y'all around peeps.

P.S: madam Patience is now permanent secretary? really? the end.

awards my big black...er...foot!

i'm hard pressed not to write about the nigerin blog awards but (i) it wont be fair to all my readers and people who took the time to vote for this blog (ii) i still don't understand my mental state when i decided to participate in it and (iii) i'm as bitter as a older wives meeting a new wife for the first time. to cut a morbid story short: i did not win a damn acknowledgement (much less an award). after all my toiling, having to degrade myself to the point of begging for votes from people who i really never wanted to know about my blog or read the contents thereof, after making people i hold in extreme high regard leave their daily activities and set out to vote for something so trivial, and aafter i waited ages for the darn result to be announced, i still didn't win a matchstick. i know there is something called graciously accepting the results of a competition when it doesn't go your way, but please. i'll probably never have a reason to spew out the diat...

a thousand words...

...this is Lagos Nigeria, in 2010 with the tons of LASTMA traffic officers who jump into the cars of law abiding citizens as soon as they inadvertently miss a turning. We went over the entire stretch of 3rd mainland bridge this morning driving behind this 12th wonder of the world. thank God for Blackberry, otherwise i don't know how i could have described this to y'all...or if anyone would have believed me. i guess they are right when they say that a picture does indeed say a thousand words. see y'all peeps!

of letting go and moving on

You know, i struggle with the concept of 'forgive and forget'... and yes my insomnia is in high gear as usual, so i shall blog the thoughts keeping me awake tonight. As you likely have already been told countless times from childhood when you are angry at someone, you are meant to exhibit a 'higher moral standard' than the person who has hurt you by forgiving and forgetting. The entire concept is supposedly premised on countless religions, complete with the balderdash that you are actually hurting yourself even more by not doing so. Don't get me wrong, i don't believe you need to carry mental baggage around with you for years while the person who has hurt you most likely forgot about it the moment after. The truth is that people who offend others usually either unintentionally do it and as such may not even be aware of the pain they have left behind...or they actually intended the offence and have received the satisfaction they desired the moment you got hur...
